Why E string Bags?
Our reason for creating E string Bags was simple

When you consider that we have only been mass producing plastic bags for approximately 40 years, and it's calculated that we are now exceeding global consumption of over 1 trillion plastic bags per annum, (5 billion P/a Australia) for a product thats usage can be measured in the time it takes to get from the shop to your home, these numbers are staggering; especially when you pause to consider the following;
The accumulation of discarded plastics in our oceans may be one of the most alarming of today's environmental stories - to quote the Algalita Marine Research Foundation (AMRF):
'Plastic, like diamonds, are forever!'
Because plastics do 'NOT' biodegrade, no naturally occurring organisms can break these polymers down. Instead, plastic goes through a process called photodegredation, where sunlight breaks down plastic into smaller and smaller pieces until there is only plastic dust. But always plastic remains a polymer. When plastic debris meets the sea it can remain for centuries in the eco system, continuing to do untold damage.
Please take the time to visit www.algalita.org and explore and support the outstanding work conducted by the AMRF and like us; I am sure you should be shocked by the exponential build-up of “non-biodegradable” plastic debris in our world’s ocean.
In Australia as of January 2007; it is reported by the www.ephc.gov.au that approx 2% of the 5 Billion plastic bags used in Australia each year enter our litter stream - escaping from our lanfills, bins and homes.
2% does not sound like a lot, and can easliy be expressed as " ONLY 2%" ............until you do the maths:
2% of 5 Billion single use plastic shopping bags = 100 million discarded plastic bags per year .
If you watched the video preview above of 'Our Synthetic Sea'; it's easy to understand where the majority of all disgared plastic bags eventually end up. It's a plague we have created, and we have a choice to stop it.
'Out of Sight,' can no longer be 'Out of Mind', I firmly believe there is more good than bad in our world, and when people are made aware of the facts, the majority of us will act responsibly to effect change.
Quote...'A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.'.........Margaret Mead
IT'S YOUR TIME TO ACT NOW!
Plastic bags started as a convenience, price, availability, it doesn't matter why.... we all used them... if we can help you to "say no to plastic bags" then what a difference we can make together. Choose reusable bags, and take it from me, once you start to say 'NO' when offered a plastic bag - it becomes quite empowering to know that you are part of a rapidly growing group of globally concerned citizens.
All around the world, governments and consumers are uniting to substantially reduce the single use plastic bags consumed. From restricting their use through taxes where consumers are charged at the checkout counter per bag used; in such countries as Ireland, Denmark, Germany, South Africa and parts of Japan. To countries like Bangladesh, Taiwan who are banning the bag outright.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
It is time to change together. If you understand that a journey begins with a single step; then we proudly welcome you to walk side by side with us on this important journey.
Our goal is to make it easy for you to take action and make a difference. So if you want to get involved we suggest:
Step 1 Purchase your own reusable bags and use them for as much of your weekly food shopping as possible. (Six short handle E string shopping bags will hold a full shopping trolley load, these bags are also designed to fit over most plastic bag holders at your local supermarket checkout. Little tip: I use a pony tail hair tie - the type with the two beads on each end - to keep my 6 bags together when not in use, and when at the supermarket, I use this clip to hang the empty 6 E string bags off the shopping trolley handle until I get to the checkout.
Step 2 Ensure you keep your resuable bags close at all times, i.e. in your coat pocket, purse, handbag, car glove box, door handles etc.
Step 3 Don't be put off if you don't rember your reusable bag everytime, it takes a while to break the plastic bag habit. But like most things; stay committed and it will become second nature to 'Say No to Plastic Bags" and use your reusable bags instead.
Step 4 Persuade your favorite local store to stock and sell our range of E string bags.
Step 5 Send a letter to local government officials to implement a plastic bag consumption tax modelled after Ireland's extremely successful PlastTax in your area.
Our commitment to you is:
• To provide environmentally responsible products that work as well or better, look as good or finer, than other alternatives and don’t cost the Earth.
• To help keep educating and raising awareness by continuing to providing up to date facts, images and information from around the world, on issues relating to the environment and changes underway by governments on the war against plastic bags that is currently impacting on you and your family.
